The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office is looking for a licensed physician who could volunteer assistance in some cases. Training in gerontology and/or psychiatry is preferred.
The doctor would work with investigators and supply critical knowledge and guidance that would help with putting together cases. The doctor would be asked to evaluate medical records to determine the victim’s mental and physical state at the time of the fraud.
The doctor would help prepare both officers and victims for testimony and might be called to testify.
Without this help, officers either have to make judgment calls that often can be challenged by an attorney in court or pay for consultant services.
The goal is to help elderly victims who are victims of fraud. Anyone who can provide such services can send an e-mail to Lt. Christopher Kean at Keanec@pbso.org or call him at (561) 688-3950.
