Florida veterans can now have a special blue V added to their driver licenses or ID cards, allowing veterans to use it to collect certain benefits and discounts offered by retail and commercial businesses.
Veterans wanting the new designation will need to visit one of seven service centers of the Palm Beach County Tax Collector.
Only the Lake Worth center is not issuing driver licenses.
Veterans must present a copy of their DD-214 form issued by the United States Department of Defense. If the current driver license or ID card is Real ID compliant, the transaction is a simple replacement. If not, veterans will need to bring other documents, such as original birth certificate, social security and residency proof.
Go to taxcollectorpbc.com for the complete list of documents. A one-time fee of $1 is added to the $31.25 replacement cost or $54.25 cost for a Real ID.
